Maoists bomb home of Nepal's health minister

The home of Nepal's health minister has been badly damaged in a bombing by suspected Maoist rebels.

Health Minister Sharad Singh Bhandari was not at home when the bomb went off in Mahottari district, 180 kilometres south of Kathmandu.

Police say nobody was injured, but the house was badly damaged.

Security personnel rushed to the scene after the explosion and caught six Maoist suspects.

In other developments, officials say at least 12 rebels and two soldiers have been killed in a series of encounters across the country.
