India says it does not want war with Pakistan
Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee says his nation does not want war with Pakistan, but if conflict erupted, the country would face it. Mr Vajpayee says India has never attacked another nation, but if it came under attack, "would not tolerate it." Tensions between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan have been running high since a December 13 attack on the parliament in New Delhi, which India blames on Pakistan-based militant groups carrying out "cross-border terrorism". Fourteen people, including the attackers, were killed in the attack. Both countries have since massed some one million troops along their shared borders in a tense military standoff.
