Four received prison sentences in Vietnam over 'illegal departures'
In Vietnam, four members of a Vietnamese hill tribe minority have received prison terms for "organising illegal departures" to Cambodia.
A court official in Chu Se district says the four were tried publicly last Friday, and were handed terms of up to six and a half years.
They were from the Jarai minority in Gia Lai province.
The official said they were charged with organising the "illegal" departure last year of some 83 Montagnard ethnic people to Cambodia, where they were arrested and returned to Vietnam.
Last week, the United Nations, Cambodia and Vietnam sought to end a longstanding deadlock and agreed to allow about 1,000 Vietnamese asylum-seekers who fled into Cambodia to be voluntarily repatriated.
But, human rights groups have expressed concern over the deal, warning it could pave the way for asylum-seekers being deported.
