British pottery maker transfers more production to Indonesia

British china maker, Royal Doulton, says it will cut one-thousand more jobs, shut a factory in Britain and transfer more of its production to Indonesia.

Royal Doulton, once a household name but now struggling to adapt to the changing tastes of modern consumers, will have cut about 40 percent of its workforce over two years after the latest layoffs.

Last year's foot and mouth crisis and the September 11 terrorist hijackings scared many tourists away from Britain and also hit sales at airports.

Royal Doulton reported an operating loss of 34-million dollars for 2001.
