Australia urges Japanese to eat more imported beef

Australia's Agriculture Minister has urged Japanese consumers to eat more imported Australian beef.

As Tokyo correspondent Mark Simkin reports, Warren Truss is in Japan for meetings with Government officials.

Japan is one of Australia's most important beef markets. But after that country's first case of mad cow disease demand slumped by 25 percent. Agriculture Minister, Warren Truss has urged Japanese consumers to start eating Aussie beef again. "If there are Japanese people who have concerns about the quality of Japanese beef, let me assure you they can buy Australian with absolute confidence." Mr Truss criticised Japanese company, Snowbrand foods for deliberately disguising Australian beef as Japanese beef.
