authorities in Indonesia deport Iranians holding false passports
Authorities in Indonesia's resort island of Bali have deported five Iranians for possessing false European passports.
The Antara news agency says the Iranians were apprehended while trying to board a flight to Tokyo at Bali's Ngurah Rai airport.
The chief of the airport's immigration office says officers seized several false passports.
They say 18 illegal immigrants have been deported from Indonesia this year, all of them carrying false passports - and most seeking asylum in Australia.
Indonesia has been increasingly used as a stepping stone by illegal immigrants from the Middle East and South Asia hoping to enter Australia.
