Afghan interim leading calls for end to warlord feuding As efforts continue to resolve a power struggle in eastern Afghanistan, the country's interim leader has called for an end to feuding between the country's warlords. Hamid Karzai's appointed a nine member delegation to hold a Loya Jirga or tribal council in the eastern town of Gardez. Tensions there remain high amid competing claims for the governorship. Hamid Karzai's appointment, Padsha Khan and his forces were turned back last week by fighters loyal to the powerful tribal leader, Saif Ulla, who has considerable local support. Meanwhile in a further sign of the fragility of the administration, fresh fighting's been reported between rival warlords in the northern Afghanistan city of Mazar-e-Sharif. A one to two hour battle took place on Saturday between forces loyal to Uzbek warlord General Abdul Rashid Dostum and the those of rival Tajik commander Atta Mohammad.
