US concerned at Falungong arrests

United States President, George W-Bush, has expressed concern at China's arrest of 40 foreign Falungong members.

The White House says Mr Bush will raise the issue of religious freedom during his upcoming visit to Beijing.

A White House spokesman, Ari Fleischer, says President Bush is concerned with any arrests for religious purposes in China and he remains committed to taking up the issue with Chinese officials.

The president is due in Beijing on February 21st.

Police made the arrests after the banned group's followers protested in Tiananmen Square in the second such demonstration this week -- and the largest so far by overseas practitioners.
