Malaysia and Indonesia agree to resolve labour row

Malaysia and Indonesia have agreed to resolve differences over Kuala Lumpur's crackdown on the hiring of Indonesian workers after recent riots

At the end of a two-day Malaysia-Indonesia Joint Commission meeting the two sides said a new bilateral mechanism was needed to overcome weaknesses in the recruitment of Indonesian workers, but gave no details.

The agreement came a day after Malaysia rejected a plea by Jakarta for it to reconsider its new policy of employing Indonesians only as maids and plantation workers.
