UN representative hopes for trial of Cambodia's Khmer Rouge
United Nations special representative for human rights Peter Leuprecht says that he hopes a trial of Cambodia's surviving Khmer Rouge leaders will go ahead with UN support.
The world body pulled out of long term negotiations on a trial earlier this year and after a meeting with King Sihanouk in Phnom Penh, Mr Leuprecht admitted that he knew of no country that supported the United Nations decision.
He says King Sihanouk agreed with him that the decision was regrettable, but neither he nor the king had given up on delivering justice for the 1.7 million people who perished under Pol Pot's rule from 1975 to-79.
Diplomats in Phnom Penh say there is a chance the UN may go back to the negotiating table with the government.
