Indonesian President criticises impatient governments
Indonesia has complained about impatient governments that take unilateral action against asylum seekers.
In what's seen as a reference to Australia, President Megawati Sukarnoputri criticised governments that seek to impose their will on other states.
Graeme Dobell reports that Indonesia's President was formally opening the People Smuggling conference in Bali.
"The President's attack was directed at Australia for what Indonesia has called its megaphone diplomacy over the Tampa affair last year and at Malaysia for deporting thousands of Indonesians working in Malaysia illegally. Megawati says governments that do whatever they want provoke a negative judgment. "We have witnessed some impatient governments taking unilateral steps to protect their national interests."
