Nepali soldiers shoot dead six Maoist rebels
Nepali soldiers have shot dead six Maoist rebels in fresh assaults on the guerrillas fighting to overthrow the constitutional monarchy.
Nepal's Defence Ministry says Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is due to travel to India on Wednesday to seek more support to fight the Maoists, who want to replace the monarchy with a one-party communist republic. In the latest clashes, four guerrillas were killed on Tuesday in west Nepal, while two others died in gunbattles near Kathmandu. Soldiers also detained 11 Maoist insurgents in the crackdown on the rebels, who abandoned a fragile truce last November and soon after launched deadly attacks on the army.
