Australian special forces troops in Afghanistan prepare to head home

Australia is preparing to rotate home most of its 150 special forces troops serving in Afghanistan.

Defence spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel David Tyler, says the returning SAS soldiers will be given a reception in the West Australian capital, Perth...the unit's home city.

Colonel Tyler says the handover to fresh Australian troops at a base near Kandahar will take place soon.

All I can say is it's imminent. It'll be happening very soon and we'll be in a position hopefully shortly to let you know those sort of details. Certainly there's a rotation planned and it'll happen soon.
