Two bombs in Kathmandu leave 24 wounded

Police in Nepal blame suspected Maoist rebels for two bomb blasts in and around the capital, Kathmandu, that injured 24 people.

The wounded included a number of children who were on their way to school.

Police say some of the injured are in a serious condition.

Another bomb went off on the city outskirts, but no one was hurt.

Maoist guerrillas have in the past planted several bombs in Kathmandu, but they have mostly been defused by security forces before they exploded.

More than 27-hundred people have died since the Maoists launched their violent struggle for a communist republic in Nepal in 1996.
