Key trial witness says Indonesian police forced her to lie
A key witness in the Tommy Suharto murder and firearms trial says Indonesian police beat her up and threatened her family to force her to implicate him.
In a what could be a blow to the prosecution case, Hetty Siti Hartika denied that guns allegedly found in an apartment complex which she managed, belonged to Hutomo Tommy Mandala Putra.
Ms Hartika said she was kicked, hit and intimidated during police detention and was forced to make a false admission that the guns belonged to Tommy
Thirty-nine-year-old Tommy, the son of former Indonesian President Suharto, could face the death penalty if convicted of ordering the murder of a judge or of possessing firearms.
