Blast in Indonesia's Ambon kills two, wounds many
An explosion in Indonesia's eastern port city of Ambon has reportedly killed two people and wounded up to 20 others, triggering a protest by thousands of Christians.
Medical staff at Ambon hospital say apart from the two fatalities a number of other people are in a critical condition.
Reuters newsagency quotes witnesses as saying the explosion occurred in a Christian quarter of the city, prompting thousands of residents in the area to converge on the nearby governor's office.
Witnesses say police fired warning shots over the heads of the protesters, who also set fire to a part of the governor's compound.
Police have confirmed the explosion, but gave no details and would not say if it was caused by a bomb.
Reuters newsagency says Ambon has been fairly calm since Muslims and Christians signed a peace deal in February, aimed at halting violence that has killed at least five-thousand people across the island chain in the past three years.
