Vietnam says Russian naval base exit before July 1st
Vietnam says it expects Russia to complete its troop withdrawal from a key military base of Cam Ranh by July the first.
A Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman says both countries will complete legal procedures on Cam Ranh port, before July the first this year.
She says Vietnam will work out a suitable plan to use the port after the Russian withdrawal is completed.
Last month, Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Kasyanov, during a visit to Hanoi said the pullout of personnel and equipment would be completed by July.
Moscow has had rent-free use of Cam Ranh Bay since 1979.
Cam Ranh base, first used by the colonial French and upgraded by the United States during the Vietnam War, offers strategic access to the sea lanes of the South China Sea.
