Three soldiers declared suspects in slaying of top separatist leader
Indonesia's military says three soldiers have been declared suspects in the slaying last year of a top separatist leader in Papua province.
It is the first time the military has said its troops were involved in the killing of Theys Eluay, whose body was found in his overturned car last November.
In a statement, the military says three rogue officers of the Indonesian military, who have been detained, must go through a legal probe as suspects.
There were no details on what role the soldiers were suspected of playing in the killing, possible motive, or what branch of the military they came from.
Theys Eluay chaired the pro-independence Papua Presidium Council, an umbrella group of Papuan leaders seeking independence peacefully.
