12 people killed in Indian-administered Kashmir
Twelve people including five Indian army soldiers have been killed in insurgency-linked violence in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Muslim separatist rebels ambushed an Indian army patrol near the township of Surankote, south of Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar, killing five soldiers, including two officers. Four more soldiers were critically injured. Police say the militants attacked the troops with landmines and automatic rifles and fled the area.
Army reinforcements rushed to the area to track down the rebels. The pro-Pakistan movement Jamiat-ul-Mujahedin claimed responsibility for the ambush.
