Pakistani police say Indian troops targetted civilians along LOC
Pakistani police have accused Indian troops of killing three teenage girls, two of them sisters, in firing across the tense line of control in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir. They say two people, including a girl, were wounded in the "unprovoked" firing on Saturday night on several border villages in Sehmani sector in southern Bhimber district of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. Police say the Indian troops targetted the civilian population with mortar bombs and machine guns.
They say at least three other people have been killed in cross-border firing by Indian troops in Pakistan-ruled Kashmir over the past week. The two nuclear-armed rivals frequently exchange firing along the U.N.-supervised Line of Control, which separates their armies in Kashmir. The two countries have massed more than a million troops on their borders in a standoff triggered by a deadly attack on the Indian parliament in December that New Delhi blames on Pakistan-based militants fighting its rule in Kashmir.
