Kopassus officers questioned about Theys Eluay killing
Indonesia's military police have begun questioning three officers of an elite army unit charged with last year's murder of Papuan independence leader, Theys Eluay.
A defence lawyer says the three suspects are all officers from the Kopassus command.
Military police say the men - who face a maximum 15 years in jail - will also be charged with insubordination, because there were never any orders from their superiors to kill Eluay.
The laying of charges comes as an independent commission probing the killing is scheduled to hand over its report to Indonesian President, Megawati Sunkarnoputri.
Eluay was found murdered on November 11, following his abduction the previous evening by an unidentified group as he was driven home from a Kopassus function in Jayapura.
A military police spokesman says Eluay's driver is presumed dead, and the investigation may prompt charges against more Kopassus officers.
