Indon authorities shave heads of prostitutes

Local officials in an Indonesian town have been shaving the heads of prostitutes to try to stop them from working.

But officials in the town of Tangerang, in Java, say many prostitutes are still plying their trade by wearing wigs.

The officials say the plan behind the drastic course of action is to scare off sex workers and reduce the level of prostitution.

The town is also building a social centre for prostitutes where it is hoped they will learn alternative skills, such as tailoring and beautician work.
