Cambodian leader bows out of Timor independence celebrations
Authorities in Phnom Penh say Cambodian leader Hun Sen has abandonded plans to travel to East Timor this weekend for the territory's independence celebrations.
There had been widespread speculation the prime minister would use the event to personally appeal to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan over the issue of a trial for former Khmer Rouge leaders..
Earlier this year, the UN walked out of more than four years of negotiations aimed at delivering justice for those who perished during the murderous reign of the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s.
Cambodia's Foreign Minister Hor Namhong will now lead the Cambodian delegation to Dili instead of Hun Sen.
