Pakistani authorities conduct DNA test on remains of Daniel Pearl
Pakistani authorities have conducted DNA tests on samples taken from a dismembered body discovered on the outskirts of Karachi which they believe are the remains of murdered US reporter Daniel Pearl.
A police investigator said samples of teeth, hair, bones and blood stains were being sent to Lahore for DNA testing.
Pakistani authorities found the decapitated body on Friday buried on a vacant plot of land near the blood-stained hut where he was apparently murdered after being abducted on January 23. A video of Daniel Pearl being beheaded was sent to the United States consulate in Karachi in February after the reporter went missing while investigating Islamic militancy in Pakistan. Police have reportedly questioned a man who used to own the desolate plot.
The area is notorious as a criminal haunt.
