Japan to continue to lobby for commerical whaling

Japan has said it will continue to work towards a resumption of commercial whaling.

Tokyo correspondent Mark Simkin reports Japanese delegates have made the pledge after their latest bid was rejected by the International Whaling Commission at its meeting in the port city of Shiminoseki.

"The meeting voted overwhelmingly to reject Japan's revised management scheme, a framework for the re-introduction of commercial whaling. The proposal, which have abolished whale sancturaries and allowed countries to immediately resume hunting. The Japanese delegation says it's disappointed with the result, but has vowed to continue to campaign for the lifting of the whaling moratorium."
