India denies its giving Pakistan two months to crack down on militants

India has denied reports that it is giving Pakistan two months to crack down on Islamic militants before deciding on possible military action.

The Hindustan Times newspaper reported earlier that the Indian government was waiting to see whether Islamabad would clamp down on cross border attacks in the next few weeks.

But the European Union's External Affairs Commissioner, Chris Patten says India is, on the contrary, running out of patience with Pakistan.

Mr Patten made the comments after holding talks with India's foreign minister, Jaswant Singh.

He says relations between the two nuclear neighbours are on "a knife edge" and India expects Pakistan to act swiftly against militants.

And I think they want examples of Pakistan delivering on the UN Security Council resolution which makes it clear that countries won't allow their territory to be used as a safe haven for terrorists.
