China asks Japan not to authorise history textbook
Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan is urging Japan not to accept a controversial new junior high school history textbook currently being screened for authorization.
He says the political foundation of Sino-Japanese relations will be safeguarded only if the Japanese government handles the issue appropriately.
The textbook draft has provoked condemnation from South and North Korea as well as China.
They say it distorts history and tries to justify Japan's imperial wars of aggression against Asian countries.
