China blames disturbed loner for fatal school blast
China's Premier Zhu Rongji is reported to have blamed a lone madman for a devastating blast at a school in the country's southeast that killed at least 40 people, most of them children.
He's also said to have denied children were making fireworks on the premises at the time of the explosion.
He's been quoted as telling Hong Kong reporters in Beijing that initial investigations showed the blast was caused by a mentally-ill man who'd taken gunpowder to the school and detonated it.
Earlier reports, quoting local sources, said children were putting fuses into firecrackers at the time of the blast...a practice that had continued for years despite repeated parental complaints.
