Indian parliament adjourned for fourth day over scandal

The Indian parliament has been adjourned for the fourth day running over a defence bribery scandal which came to light last week.

Neraj Bali reports...

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's promise of a judicial prob into the scam has cut no ice with a united opposition. It is demanding the ruling coalition led by the Hindu right wing Paratha-Janata party stand down. The government says it is ready to face a confidence vote if the opposition allows the parliament to function. The scandal surfaced when journalists posing as arms dealers secretly videotaped senior politicians, defence officials and bureaucrats accepting bribes. The scandal is the biggest blow to Mr Vajpayee's coalition since coming to power in October 1999..
