Veteran Chinese dissident jailed
Veteran Chinese dissident Wang Tingjin is reported to have been sentenced without trial to three years in a labour camp for defying a travel ban.
The news agency A-F-P says it's been told by police in Bengbu, in the eastern province of Anhui, the former mathematics professor was sentenced on Friday for allegedly crossing the national border.
However the Hong Kong-based Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy denied Professor Wang had left the country, saying he'd simply left the town of Bengbu.
Wang Tingjin was jailed for two years in 1979 for taking part in China's Democracy Wall Movement.
