EU sees little change in Burmese politics

The European Union says it will continue to monitor the political situation in Burma but expects no major developments.

The E-U's acting director for Asia, Jonathan Scheele, said an EU mission to Burma this year was encouraged by reports that the ruling junta and the opposition were holding some talks.

However, he says "progress is very far from reality."
The EU mission visited Rangoon in January, meeting with many leaders, including opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and the junta first secretary, Khin Nyunt.
