Tamil Tigers release government soldier
Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels have freed a government soldier and three merchant sailors detained for up to eight years.
The International Committee of the Red Cross says the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam handed over the prisoners in the rebel-held Wanni region.
The release of the four prisoners, who had been held in rebel custody for between four and eight years, came as Norway's top envoy, Jon Westborg, held talks with the rebel leadership about Oslo's attempts to broker peace.
The Red Cross says the Tamil Tigers are still holding nine Sri Lankan army soldiers, a navy trooper and eight merchant sailors.
However, families of the missing service personnel believe the rebels may be holding many more.
