Quake hit Gujarat says all orphans will go to Indian relatives

The government in the Indian state of Gujarat has decided that all of the 285 children orphaned by India's January 26 earthquake will be adopted by their relatives.

Offers to adopt children poured in from around the world after the quake, measuring seven-point-seven on the Richter scale, shook the western Indian state.

More than 20,000 were killed and a million left homeless.

About 350 childless Indian couples, or those with only one child, sent applications to the Gujarat government, but it has decided to place all the orphaned children with relatives.
