Ten killed in separatist violence in Jammu and Kashmir
Ten people including four guerrillas have been killed in separatist violence in India's troubled state of Jammu and Kashmir. They say four militants belonging to the Pakistan-based militant group, Jaish-e-Mohammad, were killed in a clash with police late yesterday in Doda district, 350km southeast of Srinagar.
This came as Kashmir's main separatist alliance has dismissed the Indian government's announcement that it had begun a political dialogue on the future of the disputed Himalayan region.
The Hurriyat movement - representing 12 separatist organisations - says the Indian government's move is nothing more than "window dressing".
India's envoy on Kashmir, K.C. Pant, said on Sunday that he had sent invitations for talks to several regional groups and had already held discussions with former Kashmir chief minister Mir Quasim.
Mr Pant also said he had sent invitations to the Hurriyat leadership.
