Japanese towel manufacturers oppose Tokyo restrictions
A group of ten Japanese towel makers with production bases in China have asked their government not to impose a safeguard curb on towel imports, claiming the measure will ruin their efforts to slash costs.
They visited the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to put their case an ongoing six-month investigation into whether to impose the curb.
The group says it will seriously damage their self-help efforts that have cost them big capital sums in direct investment in China.
The Japan Towel Industrial Association made the request for the measure and the ministry is to make a decision by mid-October on whether to invoke the World Trade Organization safeguard clause on imports from China and Vietnam.
