Arson attack suspected over Japan's controversial history textbook
Police in Japan are investigating a suspected arson attack on the office of a nationalist group responsible for a history textbook criticised for glossing over Japan's wartime atrocities.
Police say an incendiary device caused a fire at a car park adjacent to a three-story building which includes the office of the Society for History Textbook Reform.
They say the fire burned window frames of the Society's office and a building wall.
The Society for History Textbook Reform comprises nationalist historians who assert Japan has become too masochistic in assessing its past.
The group's textbook has been severely criticized by China and South Korea, which argue it glosses over Japan's brutal acts during World War Two.
