Australian PM says East Timor friction is over

Australia's Prime Minister, John Howard, says any friction with Indonesia over East Timor is now behind the two countries.

Mr Howard told a Liberal Party fund raising lunch in Sydney that the relationship between the two countries is now entering a period of positive realism.

We took a stand you know in relation to East Timor which was the right stand and a stand that has won Australia great respect and great credit around the world. But that is something we now move on from. We don't walk away from it, we don't retreat from it, we don't in any way apologise for it.
