Singapore denies involvement in gun-running to Indonesia
Singapore says there is no reason to think that it is implicated in smuggling guns into insurgency-wracked provinces of Indonesia.
A Singapore Foreign Ministry statement says as far as it's aware there's no evidence that any Singaporean parties are involved in such activities, but if such evidence surfaces, they will certainly be dealt with.
The Ministry was responding to remarks by the head of Indonesia's national intelligence agency, A-M Hendropriyono, saying the intelligence bodies of both countries will sign an agreement to curb the smuggling of firearms from Singapore.
Mr Hendropriyono says guns have been smuggled to Indonesia for political purposes, adding that Singaporean intelligence had identified those involved in the trade.
In its statement, the Singapore foreign ministry said the island state would do whatever it could to help Indonesia or other countries fight terrorist activities.
