The leaders of Japan and Indonesia agree on policy to fight terrorism

The Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri have agreed to join a common front against terrorism.

The two leaders have both separately met with US President George W. Bush in Washington over the past week and condemned the terror attacks on Washington and New York.

However, President Megawati faces strong domestic pressure.

Protesters have burned U-S flags and an effigy of President George W.Bush outside the American Embassy in Jakarta.

Mark Bowling reports.

Anti -American calls are growing louder, outside the US Embassy in Jakarta protesters vent their anger and call for a Jihad. Hundreds of young Indonesians have signed up as volunteers to go to Afghanistan to fight with the Taliban. Despite efforts by Indonesian police to increase security for the American community, some US diplomats are preparing to leave Indonesia. The US Government has authorised some staff and all diplomatic family members to leave after threats by radical Islamic groups, to round up and attack Americans. Mark Bowling, Jakarta.
