Aust calls on Indonesia to work together on security

Australian defence force chief Admiral Chris Barrie has called for Australia and Indonesia to join forces in addressing regional security problems.

The admiral was speaking after talks with Indonesia's senior military and security chiefs in Jakarta.

Regarding the safety of Australians living in Indonesia, he said he wasn't at all worried.

Meanwhile, The American Ambassador to Jakarta, Robert Gelbard, has criticised Indonesian police for failing to act against hardline Islamic groups, which have been threatening Americans.

The US State Department says it is allowing non-essential diplomats in Indonesia to leave and has advised all other Americans to consider quitting the country.

Mr Gelbard says the move has been taken due to the increasing deterioration in the security environment regarding Americans.
