Donors pledge to help rebuild Afghanistan
International donors and development experts have pledged to help Afghanistan rebuild its shattered economy.
Amid calls for cancellation of the country's debt and the creation of a trust fund to channel donor assistance, the pledges came at a three-day conference in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.
The Islamabad meeting was organised by the World Bank, the UN Development Programme and the Asian Development Bank.
Yoshihiro Iwasaki, programmes director for the western region of the Asian Development Bank, says it's ready to support the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Around 200 delegates attended the opening session of the conference.
