Army seizes arms from Maoist rebels in Nepal

In Nepal, soldiers and Maoist rebels have clashed in various parts of the country after the army was ordered in to clamp down on the six-year rebellion.

Clashes broke out after the rebels detonated homemade pipe bombs at an army barracks in Charikot, northeast of Kathmandu.

The army action came just 24 hours after the government imposed a state of emergency, following a series of rebel attacks last week which left some 80-soldiers and policemen dead.

The rebels began their attacks on government instiutions after breaking a four-month ceasefire.
