More than 80 Maoist rebels killed in Nepal

In Nepal, more than 80 Maoist rebels have been killed in clashes with security forces in the west of the country.

The government says most of the rebels died when security forces opened fire on a group trying to lay landmines.

In 1996, the rebels launched a war against the current constitutional monarchy, demanding a people's republic.

The government announced a state of emergency this week to combat a resurgence in the conflict.
