Maoist rebels fight Nepalese Army
The United States has condemned the latest attacks in an escalating Maoist insurgency in Nepal which has killed 350 people in six days, and pledged to continue to work with Kathmandu's military.
State Department spokesman Richard Boucher urged rebels to press their political campaign through constitutional means, hours after US diplomats were banned from most travel outside the Nepalese capital as a result of safety fears.
The king declared a state of emergency after the rebels ended a four-month cease-fire and launched a series of attacks that have killed over three-hundred people since last Friday.
In the first major clash between the army and the guerrillas troops have attacked a village in western Nepal, killing 13 Maoists and arresting another five.
