Indonesian troop reinforcements arrive in central Sulawesi

More than two-thousand Indonesian soldiers and police have started arriving in central Sulawesi to try to end deadly clashes between Christians and Muslims.

Thousands of people remain trapped in sectarian enclaves, as Mark Bowling reports:

"The latest upsurge in violence in the last week has claimed at least eight lives and left thousands of people homeless. Residents of the Christian town of Tentena say they fear further attacks by Muslim militiamen taking up postions in the hills around the town. The task of troops sent in will be to disarm the rival groups and restore calm. In a region where fighting between Muslims and Christians has claimed hundreds of lives in the last two years, many blame the latest upsurge in violence on the arrival of members of of the Laskah Jihad muslim militia from training camps in Java and from the neighbouring Maluku islands.
