Afghanistan's anti-Taliban militia's say al-Qaeda fighters to surrende
Afghanistan's anti-Taliban militia's claim Osama bin Laden's fighters have agreed to surrender the accused terrorist's Tora Bora mountain and cave hideout.
But after a tank and plane barrage lasting several hours around the mountain in eastern Afghanistan, militia commander Haji Mohammad Zaman said he was no closer to knowing the location of bin Laden. Mr Zaman, one of the three leaders of local groups hostile to bin Laden's al-Qaeda network, says al-Qaeda fighters had agreed to come down from Tora Bora tomorrow. The leaders of Afganistan's two other anti-Taliban militia's confirmed Mr Zaman's statement.
Zaman said the surrender of the al-Qaeda fighters was unconditional.
Afghan commanders believed bin Laden was hiding in the Tora Bora cave network, which was built to shelter mujahedin fighters during the 1979-89 war against the Soviet Red Army.
