Fighters loyal to Osama bin-Laden reportedly agree to surrender

Meanwhile, fighters loyal to Osama bin Laden have reportedly agreed to surrender their mountain stronghold in eastern Afghanistan after eight days of intense artillery fire and US bombing.

Afghan anti-Taliban militia commander Haji Mohammad Zaman says the surrender followed several hours of fierce fighting around Tora Bora mountain.

Commander Zaman says all bin Laden's al-Qaeda fighters had agreed to come down from the mountain.

He says the surrender was unconditional, but that he did not discuss bin Laden with the al-Qaeda fighters.

The AFP news agency quotes Zaman as saying the Al-Qaeda fighters would be handed over to the United Nations if they surrendered as arranged.
