US and Chinese diplomats hold talks on pending US withdrawal from ABM
US diplomats and Chinese officials have held talks in Beijing on America's decision to pull out of the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty - the talks ending with both sides agreeing to continue the dialogue on strategic stability.
During the discussions, China reiterated its position on the ABM Treaty, stressing the importance of safeguarding international arms control and the disarmament system.
Chinese Foreign Ministry officials say Beijing hopes that the US will also take into account the opinion of the majority of the world's nations, which believe the treaty should remain intact.
Analysts have said that the US withdrawal represents for China its worst fears that the world's remaining superpower intends to dominate the post-Cold War period.
