Provincial tax chief arrested in China on graft charges
A 39-year-old provincial tax chief in China's eastern Hebei Province has been arrested and expelled from the Communist Party for graft.
China's Xinhua news agency says Li Zhen, had taken bribes worth just over one-million US dollars and illegally obtained property and gifts worth one-point-two million US dollars, in three years as head of the Hubei tax bureau.
Communist Party authorities and the Ministry of Supervision said Li's case showed the need for better education and stronger supervision of young officials.
China has executed a string of officials for corruption in the past few years. The highest-ranked was Cheng Kejie, former vice-chairman of the National People's Congress.
