Indonesian coffee production expected to stabalise
Indonesia's coffee output for 2002 is expected to remain around this year's level of 420,000 tonnes after many local growers changed their crops due to low world prices.
Nuril Hakim, the deputy chairman of the Indonesian Coffee Exporters Association, says the organization expects 300,000 to 320,000 tonnes of the projected production will be for export.
That will be around the same level of production and export as this year's because low world prices have mainly been caused by a glut in robusta coffee supplies from Vietnam.
Indonesia is proposing to hold a meeting between the region's major robusta coffee producers -- Indonesia, India and Vietnam -- in January in an effort to boost prices.
